Zirconia Crucibles for Consistent, High Temperature Melting

Zircoa CruciblesZirconium Oxide Compositions Engineered for Increased Foundry Productivity

Zirconium Oxide Crucibles deliver cleaner melts at temperatures up to 1900°C and beyond. They are engineered for the melting of superalloys and precious metals and deliver heat-up and cool-down schedules that keep your foundry productive. For immediate delivery, we inventory the most common crucible sizes, with configurations to suit your particular needs. Markets served include: Aerospace, Power Generation, Medical, Precious Metals and Dental.

For more detailed information on the unique properties of Zirconium Oxide (A Grain Zirconia, ZrO2) please visit our Solutions page, or contact a product specialist to discuss your specific needs.

Five Compositions to Choose From

Whether you’re melting superalloys or precious metals, the composition of the crucible is critical. Each application demands a melting vessel with specific properties. Zircoa offers four different zirconia compositions and one zircon composition, satisfying critical foundry production requirements.

Zirconia Compositions

3001 — Superalloy Applications - Composition 3001 is a magnesia stabilized zirconia. This composition exhibits superior resistance to thermal shock and erosion. It has low thermal expansion properties and excellent non-wetting characteristics.

1651 — Special Applications - When your process is sensitive to magnesia, and a higher thermal expansion is acceptable, composition 1651 makes an excellent substitute for 3001. Composed of calcia stabilized zirconia, 1651 displays a superior resistance to erosion and spalling, with good thermal shock properties.

2290 — High Purity Applications  - Composition 2290 is a Yttria stabilized zirconia generally used for high purity specialized applications. This material works well in extremely high temperature applications. It has superior resistance to erosion and is an excellent substitute for MgO or CaO stabilized material.

Zircon Composition

2004 — Platinum Group Metals Applications  - When glassy or siliceous slags are present in your melt, composition 2004 is the solution. Composition 2004 crucibles are often used for melting platinum-group alloys. Their strength and resistance to high temperature makes them right for those special “dirty refining” applications. These crucibles are made from a higher quality zircon material than standard zircon crucibles, providing superior performance and extended life.

Regardless of the composition, when specifying Zircoa crucibles, you’ll find our forming process results in crucibles with minimal density variations, consistent overall dimensions, and clean exterior lines.

For Even Longer Crucible Life

Zirconium Oxide (ZrO2, A Grain Zirconia) is one of the best commercially available insulating materials. It has approximately 5 times the insulating value of alumina or magnesia. Using 1859 or 3001 Crucible Backup will extend crucible life and result in cleaner melts (www.zircoa.com/grog).

Calculate Zirconia Crucible Capacity

Our online calculator can help you determine which Zircoa zirconia crucible is right for your particular application. For your convenience, the calculator includes an extensive list of alloys and numerous user definable fields. Microsoft Excel required (www.zircoa.com/crucible.calculator).
